5 Simple Things Which Will Help You Connect Well With Your Social Media Audience

Social Media is about people, and the ideal way to deal with people is by ‘being human’. Your objective of being on social media can be to create more awareness, generate leads, promote products/services, or even generate sales. But one objective which comes by default, no matter whether you list it down in the plan or not is ‘Building Relationships’.

Social Media means people, and where there are people there are conversations, and conversations make way for relationship building – either good or bad depending on how you deal with it.

In this post I would like to share 5 simple things which will always help you to keep yourself on the right track of building good relationships. These are basic simple things which we as human beings are supposed to do.


1. Saying Thank you: 

Famous author and speaker Robin Sharma says and believes “What you value in your life increases in value. What you appreciate begins to appreciate.” Say thanks whenever you can, and a Facebook page provides a ton of such opportunities. Just to list down a few, you can thank when:

  • A fan buys your product/service
  • Participates in your contest
  • Signs up for newsletter via Facebook landing page
  • Shares a piece on information with you
  • Answers the question you asked on Facebook


2. Being Authentic: 

Be genuine in your dealings with fans. Give them your true self and always share authentic information. If you’re wrong, or if you have made a mistake then accept it. And authenticity is one of the main reasons why people follow brands on social media.

A public apology won’t do your brand harm; in fact it will lift you up in front of others in a good way.

 

3. Keeping a Positive Tone: 

You have the ability to set a tone which you want on your social media channels. Monitoring the page and keeping basic hygiene intact should be a regular practice.

Your fan base or follower base is a reflection of your brand on social media (whether you agree to it or not). So, always make sure the atmosphere is positive and tone is right. Here are few tips to keep the tone positive in your community:

 

  • Monitor the comments – Fan comments might often take your topic of discussion off track so monitor it and dive in whenever needed to bring the discussion back on track.
  • Use power keywords in your replies – Use words such as “that’s great, awesome, good job, keep it up, superb, fantastic, bravo, great ,thanks etc” .
  • Add an element of Fun – Sharing a good fun post every now will help. Keep it light.

 

4. Giving Freebies: 

Good brands always give away whatever they can, and in return fans reward them with their attention and business. Freebies are a great way to capture attention, and keep fans happy.

  • Run a surprise contest – contest  will not only help with engagement but also help in generating leads
  • Reward loyal fans – There are tons of ‘top fans app’ out there. Use one and reward loyal fans
  • Gift them a voucher – A voucher which they can redeem to buy their favourite product (you’re also getting a sale here)

 

5. Following People back: 

On twitter when a person follows you, follow them back.

If someone has shown interest in your brand then it is worth investing little of ourselves into them. Twitter does not limit the number of followers you can have (provided you have a decent follower-following ratio maintained) so make sure you follow back those who follow you.

Having a follower base of 10,000 and showing ‘we only follow 100’ is not cool but unsocial’.
